Russell Brand – Genius or Complete Twat?

Russell_BrandI used to think the comedian Russell Brand was a complete twat. A COMPLETE twat. I dont really know why I didnt like him. I suppose it was something to do with the overly grown, unkept, stupid looking hair. Maybe the skintight rocker jeans that would hug his backside and non existent calf muscles. Or maybe it was just the face that for some strange reason, Russell Brand had made it on stage and into the world of TV.

I honestly dont know, but I think it probably was mostly to do with these things. As if this wasnt enough, i went to the Brit Awards a couple of years ago and suprise suprise – bloody Russell Brand was the presenter. An sure enough with his messy hair and potty mouth, there he was, strutting his stuff on stage in between acts. I didnt pay too much attention to him and just decided to get sloshed instead.

A few months on, and a friend tells me about a new film thats out, starring Russell. At first, I lifted my nose up and swore a few times, just recollecting my thoughts on him. Then, when I actually got round to watching this movie, I was pleasantly suprised. That same, twatty haired freak Russell Brand actually made me laugh. I wasnt quite sure about it, but as I carried on watching the film, I think my opinion of Russell Brand changed to accomodate this new feeling. In Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Brand plays a hippy musician thats a recovering addict and slightly mental. In this role, the stupid nature that Brand applied to the role really jelled well in my opinion, and gave the film a certain twang. His interaction with Jonah Hill (Seth – Superbad) were also well played and completely genius.

After watching this film, I now wonder if Russell Brand is a twat or actually a Genius? Im now not sure, as this is the only work of his I have seen that I have enjoyed. What has changed is that I am now definately more tolerable of his twatty hair, and would probably not close off if I was to see Russell Brand live on stage in front of me again (or on TV for that matter).
