AMFAS1Best picture winner at the 1966 Oscars. An amazing portrait of a man standing for what he believes in and standing up against the odds. The film can be remembered for a multitude of things. The director Zinnemann studies of men alone and against the wall. The performance of Scofield that is measured, emotive, compassionate and sublime in its balance. Or even its writer Bolt the great wordsmith and black list person, who deserved so much and got given such grief. He constructed a masterful story into a great play and then a great screenplay.

AMFAS2The Masters of cinema deserve a standing ovation for this masterpiece, not only of cinema but also Blu ray and DVD releases. The HD makes the visual sing and they do anyway but even more so now. The featurette is great stuff and as compelling as the film.  The real standout is the amazing booklet that has so much additional information and context to the piece. A revelation.
