Sunday 26th August
Starts 8pm
Dark Star, John Carpenter’s first feature is widely regarded as a cult classic and a seminal influence on 21st century sci-fi. Co-written by and starring Alien screenwriter Dan O’Bannon, this 1970s low budget space comedy has found its place in the science fiction pantheon as the missing link between 2001: A Space Odyssey and Red Dwarf.
Animat’s soundtrack to the film employs their trademark mix of their own original material and tracks from their DJ archive as well as remixed versions of themes from the original score.
This is the fifth time Animat have played at Roxy, having rescored the likes of Belleville Rendezvous and The Last Man on Earth previously. If you’ve caught one of this amazing nights you’ll know to expect a spell-binding ‘live cinema’ experience. This isn’t one of those rescores where the band plays over all the soundtrack – Animat carefully blend in their own score with dialogue, effects and music from the film to magical effect!
