Win Tickets to Amarcord Nino Rota Live at The Barbican

Amarcord Nino Rota Live
with Carla Bley, Marc Almond, Nitin Sawhney, Mike Gibbs, Karen Mantler, Kate St John & more
8pm, 22nd November
Barbican, London

Coming up is a fantastic chance to catch a celebration of Nino Rota. Nino Rota’s ability to create music themes which could take on the role of an extra character – be it a Fellini film or The Godfather – made him one of the most loved film composers in the history of cinema.

After Rota’s death in 1979, legendary American producer Hal Willner (Marianne Faithfull, Lou Reed, William S. Burroughs, Laurie Anderson, Saturday Night Live) set off to record Amarcord Nino Rota, the first of what would become a long string of acclaimed musical tribute albums, featuring then-unknown musicians like Wynton Marsalis and Bill Frisell.

The night features a stellar cast led by Carla Bley – ‘one of the great jazz composers of the past 40 years’ (Guardian) – brings some of Rota’s timeless pieces from Fellini’s classics such as La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2, and Juliet of the Spirits, plus Rota’s other film music including The Godfather, back to the Barbican stage, following its premiere in 2004, featuring extraordinary jazz and classical reinterpretations.
