Starring: Bob Geldof, Christine Hargreaves, Bob Hoskins

For any Pink Floyd fan, this is essential viewing. This film version of The Wall is based on the 1979 double album of the same name. It tells the story with very few words throughout – the storytelling is done with the visuals and the music (obviously!).

It follows the life of rock singer “Pink” played by Bob Geldof. Pink spends a lot of the film slumped in a chair in a hotel room having flashbacks and trip outs of various horrific events that have happened in his life.

Its a very original film as you would expect – its unlike anything else you are ever likely to watch. The concept of the wall is the personal wall that Pink has built around himself to protect from the world.

If you are familiar with the album then the film will certainly help you to put it all into context and give you a greater understanding of just what the hell they were on about.

There are some very striking scenes, my favourite of which being the ‘Another Brick in The Wall’ when the school kids are walking blindly into the meat grinder. Genius!

A superb job from Alan Parker to visualise all of the madness.
