Christine Blu Ray Review

c2A glorious red dream of a car, rolls off the manufacturing line and leaves dead bodies in its wake. After 30 years the wreck of this manic vehicle is left in the yard of a dead half crazed man put up for sale by the mans brother, it seems this is where it will stay. This should be the beginning of its slow journey to the breakers yard but when a young teenage boy, looking for a chance to break free, spots her for sale and pays up, its the start of another killing spree. He wants to do her up and return her to her finest. She is called ‘Christine’ and she is a very dramatic car with a taste for blood.

c3Carpenter took his genre experience and made a blend of the surreal and the unsettling. The vehicle as serial killer and the flip is that the serial killer has a fan base and this is the geek owner. It works by being clever in its logic. Clever by not taking itself so seriously, not making it a straight film in a genre. Its clever in that and Carpenter has the formula down pat.

c1Playful but not uber serious, it does lack if you have a real horror tooth but I would suggest that if this is you then – take it as the satire on the slasher. I liked it and also found it fun enough as a view but I found the real reason I liked it was all the additional bits you get on the disc. The commentary, the docs (Ignition is the standout) and the booklet. This makes the film so much more and it then sits nicely next to your Carpenter collection.
