Now in its second year, Hackney Film Festival is back with a vengeance, taking place 15th – 18th September 2011.
The festival is dedicated to creating a rich film culture within the borough of Hackney whilst providing a platform for local film-makers and artists to have their work showcased to the public. The festival programme consists exclusively of work by film-makers based in Hackney to highlight the vast amount of talent established in the area.
This year’s festival programme pushes the boundaries between cinema, live performance and artsts’ moving image, with an experimental event at Café OTO on Friday 17th and an evening of live cinema at Arcola Tent on Saturday 18th. Artsts include D-FUSE, MAX HATTLER + NORIKO OKAKU along with ROBIN MAHONEY & SI BEGG.
Other highlights include two short film programmes taking place at The Rio Cinema during Saturday afternoon, featuring work from BAFTA winning animation director MIKEY PLEASE, one-to-watch directors CALUM MACDIARMID and JULIA POTT plus crafty collaborators, THIS IS IT COLLECTIVE.
The critically acclaimed longer format film, ‘Under The Cranes’ by EMMA-LOUISE WILLIAMS will be screened at The Dalston Roof Park on the Sunday bringing the festival to a close. Based on a play by former Children’s Laurete, MICHEAL ROSEN, the film is shot in and inspired by Hackney and will feature alongside a specially selected shorts programme and audio/visual performance by HEAVY/LIGHT.
The festival kicks of with a free Opening Night brought to you in conjunction with THE GRAVY at Platform/Netil House on Thursday 15th. An Informal get together for filmmakers, contributors and film heads, with live audio visual entertainment from local electronic talent and a preview of the weekends’ events Festival Director Steven McInerney said: ‘’Once again we have been utterly impressed with what is coming out of this weird and wonderful borough, which in turn will be reflected in our diverse programme. This year will be a true testament of the film-making talent from Hackney.’’
