XMAS IS COMING 10/20 : REAR WINDOW BOARD GAME

XMAS is weeks away and you, me and the Christmas Tree need to have presents! So we have found 20 of the best to buy for your loved ones that have everything! This is the perfect gift for players of games and lovers of classic cinema by auteurs like Alfred Hitchcock. Its REAR WINDOW.

REAR WINDOW

AGE 10+ / Players 3-5 (can handle 6) / Time 35 – 50 minutes

THE GAME

Players are here to be directed by the director (another player gets this role). The director has set up four scenes behind their board and then without speaking, has to translate them. Players carefully observe clues (often abstract and interrelated). They have 4 rounds, to answer. Notice patterns in the things going on. See what is happening in an apartment. Is there murder? Theft, violence, broken hearts and more going on? You might see the mess of a party, a stash of money, a set of knives, a bloody saw?

I think it is best to see the superb play guide here to understand totally, how to play

THE REVIEW

Rare that any game mixes a party game for adults with a classic film. But REAR WINDOW does. It refines a simple set up and takes it somewhere that, well Hitch might like. Its about group interpretation and non verbal narration. Group interaction and dynamics. Its a game for those who love cinema certainly. It is also about film language. Reading film language. Understanding the weight of film language.  We adored this. Then it mirrors the film, playing with what we think is happening. Then it extrapolates something more. I never expected that players would work together to guess scenes from a masterpiece but here we are. It is lots of fun. Being both tense, sees lots of interaction and then delivers something so different.  What a delightful interpretation of a classic film.
