Xmas is coming. You know that. I know that. Need I say more here? Well yes I do. Possibly the most essential box set for anyone who loves horror, black humour and is a fan of CHILDS PLAY little anti hero and Good Guy, CHUCKY!

Arrow pulled all the films from the 1988 release (which we didn’t see), which sees Chucky absorbing the soul of an evil maniac serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) and murdering his way to a grizzly death! We did see CHILDS PLAY 2, sees Chucky return terrorising Andy again, to finish off what he started. CHILDS PLAY 3 has Andy (Justin Whalin), now a teenager, at military school but with a recently resurrected Chucky on his campus. BRIDE OF CHUCKY, span the series into a satire, with the doll returning but joined by love interest, Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly). SEED OF CHUCKY, has Chucky and Tiffany resurrected by their living-doll child, Glen (Billy Boyd). CURSE OF CHUCKY takes chucky and Nica (Fiona Dourif) on a torture ride and finally CULT OF CHUCKY, which sees Nica face the Good Guy once more with a little help from a grown-up Andy Barclay (Vincent).

Now you know the films and you don’t care about my opinion on them really. I love 1, 2, BRIDE as they are great. 3 is only of interest to many thanks to the whole Jamie Bulger horrors. The rest are stinkers. However Arrow (we haven’t seen the first as it had no check disc). CHILDS PLAY 2 is the Shout 4K version that is fantastic. It blows that boxset from 5 or 6 years ago, into touch. I feel that some of the extras were around on that, tell me if I am wrong? But I have never seen the ‘Extra scenes from the broadcast TV version’, which are funny for many reasons. I love the way scenes are chosen and how TV can build interesting elements within a film that some think is one thing. CHILDS PLAY 3 has the same Shout Factory 4K on offer here. Excellent enough, again rips away the plaster that was the previous boxset. I never heard before Audio Commentary with producer Robert Latham Brown, which is silly because it must have been there. Its really informative about choices and how CHILDS PLAY 3 developed from a sense of completing the saga and moved to being a studio film with slice…

BRIDE OF CHUCKY is brilliant. Both the film and the transfer. Again its Shouts version and again it ups the ante. I saw this in the cinema and never watched it on the set. Why, well we all do it. The thing here is the actors Jennifer Tilly, Brad Dourif and screenwriter Don Mancini commentary. Brad is funny, Jennifer sardonic and Don manifests all of his past thoughts into a couples analysis of the doll beasts. ITs well worth a visit. SEED OF CHUCKY tried to glean all the previous good stuff into another film and failed but again, Shout factory version of the film. It is the same transfer so its lovely but it just sucks the life out of me watching it again. Many extras. None I could fix on to love the most or least. CURSE OF CHUCKY and CULT OF CHUCKY are digital intermedia bits. These are a nice digital transfer that has no real issues but project flat and cold in my honest.

We didn’t see the bonus documentary. We aren’t that special.
