The latest installment from Secret Cinema began last night. This being it’s 18th production, it will run all the way up until 1st July.
As always with Secret Cinema, there has been much hype and anticipation about which film it is this time around. A huge part of the experience is the not knowing. It’s a fantastic feat to keep things under wraps so well.
This presentation follows their production of “The Third Man”, which had an audience of more than 19,000 travel to 1940’s Vienna in the middle of Clerkenwell.
Having been to several Secret Cinema events, this certainly has to be their biggest and boldest project to date. This time, we have also been treated to 4 mini missions in the build up to the launch night. More details of those can be seen at the bottom of the article.
Last night Brave New Ventures recruits gathered at a meeting point, close to Euston Station before being led round the corner to an old petrol station.
After an initial online evaluation to assess candidates personalities and their suitability for a variety of 9 different job roles. Including; Guidelink, Control Operator, Control Stabiliser, Investment Aide, Matter Analyst, Ore Surveyor, Data Scientist, Field Analyst and Containment Officer. The first evening of people arrived in the correct attired based on their pre-determined job titles allocated to them by CEO of Brave New Ventures, Victoria Hale.
So without revealing anything about the film, what can you say?
This is LIVE CINEMA. At it’s best. If you have been before then you sort of know what to expect. If you haven’t and you like films, then you must go along and experience it for yourself.
Think of it as a full scale Theatre Production based around a film.
The aim – to transport you into the film and ultimately give you a deeper connection with the film than simply watching in a darkened cinema in the high street. Does it work? Yes, amazingly well. If a production like this was done badly then it could be a pretty dull affair – this is not the case with Secret Cinema. These guys know what they are doing! The level of detail that they have prepared for you is fantastic. There is a reason why it takes 3-4 months of planning.
The characters/staff, the food, the smells, the setting, the imagery, the people dressed up, the staged scenes that you interact with as you walk through them are excellent. There is so much going on that most people will leave having had their own unique experience depending on their route through the complex.
This venue in particular drops you straight into the right mood. A very, very good place to hold this event, lots of different areas to explore. There is a real sense of togetherness at these events, it is an experience, not just a screening.
All the way up until the screening begins – although you have a good idea, you never quite know 100% what the film is, and that is part of the magic. The cryptic journey that leads you to this point is so well thought out and credit to the organisers for planning the different stages of unveiling the film.
Sworn to secrecy we are not able to disclose the film. All i can say is – if you don’t have tickets… BUY THEM NOW!
